The Elm Scholar Program offers training in acting and technical theatre to high school students in the Greater New Haven area. The Program runs for six weeks during the summer concurrent with our summer productions, and provides intensive training in the craft of theatre. Students are given the opportunity to be fully integrated into the professional company through production and performance duties and to train alongside professional actors, directors, designers, and production personnel.

Auditions/Interviews:
The Elm Scholar members are chosen by audition (Acting Scholars only), interview, and recommendation. Applicants will be contacted to schedule interviews and auditions.

Recommendation:
Applicants must provide a letter of recommendation. This letter can be written by a teacher or adult familiar with applicant's work. The letter should attest to the applicant's commitment and potential to contribute to and benefit from the program.

Schedule:
The Elm Scholars program runs in conjunction with the summer performances. Elm Scholars are expected to be available throughout the entire six week rehearsal and performance period (July 23-Sept. 3). Please be advised that whether students are Acting or Technical Theatre Scholars, it is a rigorous schedule. Responsibilities will include participation in the building and strike of the set, as well as attendance at all technical rehearsals and performances in the evening.
