Summer Camp

For the past several summers, The Elm Shakespeare Company, in collaboration with the Housing Authority of New Haven, has conducted “An Introduction to Theatre”; summer day camp for the residents of Monterey Place and Quinnipiac Terrace in New Haven, offering children ages 8-14 the opportunity to learn about the writing of William Shakespeare, about theater, and about how a play is created. The children are invited behind-the-scenes to observe rehearsals and set construction, meet the cast and crew of the Elm Shakespeare Company's summer productions, create scenes, participate in dance and stage combat workshops, create art projects and enjoy the magic of the theatre. The program culminates with the campers putting on a showcase for family and friends, and attending a professional performance in Edgerton Park.
