Prescription for Joy
Exploring Mental & Community Health through Shakespeare
OVERVIEW
Healing isn’t just personal, it’s societal. Throughout the 2026 season, Elm Shakespeare Company will explore health and healing in Shakespeare’s plays and how a 21st century theatre company can contribute to community solutions for the ongoing health crisis in America. The season will explore the idea that theatre is a health practice—not because it “fixes” anything, but because it supports regulation, presence, and connection; along with digging deep into how Shakespeare’s plays offer possible remedy to the stress of our everyday world.

The New Haven Museum was founded in 1862 as the New Haven Colony Historical Society, which remains its corporate name. From the beginning, the institution sought to collect, preserve, and make available for research the materials which document the history of the greater New Haven area.
