Shakespeare, Race, and America… not necessarily in that order…
This event happened on October 29, 2020.
Join Keith Hamilton Cobb on Zoom as he shares a rarely-seen video of his award-winning show AMERICAN MOOR as it was performed at Shakespeare’s Globe, London, UK in 2018, followed by a discussion of who gets to make art in America today, who owns Shakespeare, and the nature of unadulterated love.
Unfortunately, the event only occured live, and we cannot share the video. However, we encourage you to find out more about the playwright/performer Keith Hamilton Cobb, read the script, and find out about upcoming performances HERE.
What IS the role of a lifetime?
What is the role of a LIFE?
These are two of the myriad questions playwright and performer Keith Hamilton Cobb asks his audience to answer in his award-winning play, American Moor. In this passionate and poetic exploration, a seasoned African-American actor auditions for the role of Othello and must respond to a young, white director who presumes to understand how to maximize the iconic black character for believability. What could possibly go wrong? With humor, heart-rending emotion, and an instrument finely tuned for language, Keith Hamilton Cobb paints the portrait of an American Theater unaware of its failures, and of the culture that supports it.
