Partnership with SCSU Announcement
In 2016, The Elm Shakespeare Company and Southern CT State University proudly announced a new partnership making Elm Shakespeare the Theater-in-Residence in the theater department.
For two decades, Elm Shakespeare was privileged to rehearse and build sets at Southern's state-of-the-art Lyman Center. In this now long-term and in-depth partnership the two organizations share both resources and expertise.
Called “a shot of creative adrenaline!” by University officials, the partnership means More classical training for students, more professional opportunities for faculty and students, and more classical performance for the community!
Come and see all the great things happening at SCSU’s theater Department!
About the SCSU Theater Department
Welcome to SCSU Theatre, where our mission is to provide theatre education and professional training within a liberal arts setting. Classes in the Theatre Department stand at the crossroads of all the arts - literary, performing, visual, digital and electronic - and are open to all students. Whether you are looking for professional training or for a place to explore your artistic side, our classes and productions will strengthen your art and craft, and deepen your understanding and appreciation of your own creativity.
Being located in New Haven means our students will engage in the highest quality artistic experiences - including at our outstanding regional award-winning theater companies. As a student at SCSU Theatre, you will have unparalleled access to working the very best theater professionals as guest artists and designers - all whom have Broadway and Off-Broadway credentials. This means that our students graduate from Theatre SCSU with real-world experiences and immediate connections to the performance industry.
